Hi,
Well most of what you said is very true on US Census. But if you re-read my message I was looking for any sort of Birth index, newspaper or anything else that might list births for that state or city.
If you are familiar with STATE Census they sometimes have different info. I had been searching for 20+ yrs or so for WHERE my gggm was born and only had IN to go on with several families she could go with. (long story and many hands have not solved it totally).
The huge break through was finding them back in Boston in 1865 with everyone listed. But they also had a new baby listed that was one year old. This began the search in the GREAT Boston Indexes, in there it listed tons of great info on this index and instead of just IN it listed Oakland, Indiana! This was huge!!!! As it changed my timeline & possibly the reasons to go with one family over another. I have a year to year timeline of this family so I am very detailed. What I was hoping for and realize after the fist ladies comment was that this area was not required to keep track of Births during 1839/40.
Keep in mind some areas around the US are better at recreating birth index with Newpapers like SF, California. They lost all vital records before 1906 after the Quake/Fire but it is one of the very BEST places to research as the community has rallied together to recreated indexes from several newspapers. I have been able to find four sides of my family going back to 1860 with the areas fantastic records.
Totally get the STATE Censuses and the limited info. I was NOT looking for Census stuff as those are only first round research stuff I go much deeper to cross reference correctly.
Thank you for posting the info for others but I really wasn't asking for US Census. Have to say Boston does have some great records as does SF, CA
