Here is what I have:
'Fought at Ft. Donelson, wounded at Shiloh in mouth where he did his duty nobly, wounded in arm slightly at Stone River when color-bearer, & at Chickamauga (in left arm & nose) -he was advised to go to to the rear but declined & stayed to the end. No braver man ever went into the field. Was a good & brave soldier. Promoted 1st Lieut Jan. 26, 1864. Resigned Mar. 27, 1865, "for not being a qualified scholar". Resided in NE since 1871; of Hayes Center, NE, 1895; of Kerney, NE, 1905-1907.
