I'm looking for any records of Lewis (Louis) O'Neil, born in Vermont, but dying in Macoupin County about 1848. His wife was Nancy (nee: Regas) O'Neil, born in France, and possibly died in Macoupin County around 1850. They had at least one child, Elizabeth O'Neil, who was possibly put into an orphanage in St. Louis. Why this child was put in an orphanage so far away, I have no idea. I'm not sure of any of this information, it is more "family story," than proven fact. If anyone has any access to early Macoupin County records, I would appreciate any assistance you might provide.
