This is just a notice to let everyone know that there is a complete list of Chicago Catholic churches (open or closed) on a web site
http://www.rootsweb.com/~itappcnc/pipcnchicagochurches.htmIt shows addresses, dates of operation, ethnicity and a link to the Family History Library Catalog film records for each church.
The same site also has suburban Catholic churches, Catholic (and other) cemeteries (also with links to the catalog film numbers) and Chicago street name changes (not complete but over 800 of them).
The site was created by POINTers In Person Chapter #27, Chicago-North, an Italian genealogy discussion group that meets 5 times per year in Schaumburg. I am co-founder and web-paisano for the group and I saw a lot of questions on this board that could be answered by the contents of my site.
Hope the site can help you find your Chicago roots, whether Italian or not.
I am trying to create an internet-based church locator that can accept an address and return a list of the closest Catholic parishes to that address. I have it on FoxPro and it works great but I don't know enough about web programming to get it to work on the internet. When I do I will post the link to this board.
Hope I can help.
