I believe the funeral chapel you are looking for was the "James C. Gavin Funeral Chapel". Although there are several references to "the funeral chapel" located at 326 S. Racine, Gavin's Funeral Chapel shows an address of 312 S. Racine. I'm certain they are one and the same. (No doubt they expanded their business to include several additional storefronts along Racine Ave.).

Apparently the Gavins operated their funeral chapel at the Racine location until the late '40's or early 1950's at which time they moved their funeral business to 624 N. Western Ave., Chicago.
Mr. William Gavin, apparently the last of the Gavins in the Chicago funeral business, retired and sold the business c. 1962. He died in 1972.

There is still a funeral home located at the 624 N. Western address. I don't know if these are the same people who purchased the business from Mr. Gavin, but because the location of the business hasn't changed, perhaps they have in their possession the records from the Gavins or know where you might find them...
