#8 & #10 & #12 I am not related to these Hawkins except possibly through the Mauldins. I am interpreting what I see from the records. I agree completely with #12. I doubt there is any written evidence of whether Rebecca was married or not and if not, probably no record of who the father was. DNA would settle the matter of whether Tyre Hawkins was a Hawkins, and if not, determine a surname for the father.
#11 I already pulled the original will and stated that the error was in the transcription. Patience is shown on the original.
Now for the Mauldins. I have done a good bit of research on several Mauldin lines in collaboration with several other Mauldin researchers. The Mauldin genealogy done in the past is known to have numerous errors in it. There is a lot that needs to be corrected. They are not the only family that has errors in their genealogy. Just because Grandpa or Aunt Hattie says so does not make it so. Sometimes they were relying on faulty information. Even if they filed a DAR or SAR application, it does not necessarily mean the information is correct.
Please tell me what other Tyre Mauldin was alive and in Abbeville in 1799. I am not familiar with any other. Tyre H Mauldin was my ancestor. He purchased property in Edgefield, SC, in 1799 which identifies him as being in Abbeville at that time. He is listed as Tyre Mauldin in 1800 census in Edgefield Co. He left SC and went to Livingston, Ky. His oldest children born in SC, youngest son born in KY. His widow, Nancy, can be found in 1820 census in Fairfield County, where at least two of her daughters were married.
I presume you refer to John Mauldin, whose wife was named Sarah. John Mauldin came from Granville, NC, to Pendleton District, SC, with Blake Mauldin. He likely did have a daughter named Sarah, but it is unlikely that it was this Sarah. There are several Sarah Mauldins claiming John as their father. The most likely candidate being Sarah Mauldin that married Surry Davis. Surry Davis is living next to John and Harris Mauldin in 1796 where John Mauldin's original grant was located. He is interacting with Blake and John and married first Sarah Mauldin, second Margaret Mauldin, her sister.
With the names Tyre and Balaam recurring in this family, I think it is much more likely this Sarah Mauldin is kin to Tyre. Two of Balaam's daughters also went to Hall Co, GA. I believe Balaam to be a brother to Tyre Mauldin, but not yet proven.
