I believe he settled there ca. 1839-1840. The Presbyterian church his daughter-in law's father (Sam'l Perry) and his 2nd wife's 1st husband (Rev. Alexander) started was formed in Madison Co. before 1840. JCP married the daughter-in-law's father's sister who was widowed, in Apr.1839--I think in Madison, tho' both were from So.Car. JCP is my ggg grandfather. I'm sort of working recently on JCP's 1st wife's (Eliz. Palmer's) mother, Sarah Morgan, from Bermuda--but not making much headway. The only verified dates I have for JCP are War of 1812, Edisto, SC, living Edisto 1815/16; and census 1850, Madison, FL (farmer). He was said to have been a sea captain before moving to Fla--I have no proof yet. Also of interest--there is a historic church on Edisto built by a Robt. Pillans at the time they lived there 1812-1839; Robert is JCP's father's name. Happy hunting! Delina Jenkins Caldwell
