Dear Researchers
To find address for any USA location, state or county:
http://vitalrec.com/usmap.htmlConfirm that all information on death certificate is exactly correct. Keep in mind the possibility of burial in another location, rather than Broward County. The cemetery name should be found on a death certificate.
Specific instructions for obtaining death certificates and court records for Broward County, FL:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~flbrowar/howto.htmlAbove web site includes information regarding probate court records, in case the decedent died intestate. If there was a Last Will & Testament, it may have been handled in the state of decendent's usual or former residence.
One of the following should have information regarding change-of-name, or close-downs of funeral homes and crematories, which presumably are highly regulated by law.
One could try the Broward County Clerk, Health Department, or local Broward County Library:
http://www.broward.org/library/If the BCL is contacted, they prefer requests in writing, addressed to "Ask a Librarian". You may want to suggest checking city directories after the date of death of your relative, to see what year contained the last mention of "Blackburn Funeral Home". You may be able to request the librarian to search for an obituary, but the exact place & date of death would be necessary --- as the search in old newspaper microfilms is very time-consuming.
There is always the "Fort Lauderdale Historical Society". The address is plain to see in another recent subject title on this message board.
If you find the info, please rsvp as to what suggestion worked.
