I became curious when I saw mention of the name of this mine because my maiden name was BIRLEW. I've been researching the family for a lot of years, and there are very few of us with that spelling, and only one family line of 3 brothers and 1 sister that went with that spelling.

When I saw this BERLIEW MINE, I wondered if it could be a variant spelling of our name, and who it was named after.

We did have one female BIRLEW that married a HERNANDEZ and lived & died in NM. They were teachers and missionaries.

There may not be any connection between our family name and this BERLIEW spelling, but it would certainly be interesting to have some history of the mine if there is a connection. So far, I've not found out anything about this mine.
