I can check out Holy Cross for you. I've been making periodic trips up there to find my various relatives. Still looking for my paternal great grandparents, so need to make another trip. I probably won't get up there until the first week of October when I've got some vacation time. It's only about half an hour from my house, but I've got booked up weekends for September. What info do you have?

Ooops... just read through the whole thread, you don't seem to have the exact date for his death. That will make it harder to find him at the cemetery. Do you know if he might be buried with someone else and if so, their death date?

Also, you can find digitized issues of the San Francisco Call back to 1890 when it was called The Morning Call which might help you find what you're looking for.
