Novato cyclist killed

Funeral arrangements are pending for a 31-year-old Novato man who died Monday after a motor-cycle accident in West Marin.

Herbert Daniel Rama was riding a Kawasaki on Sir Francis Drake Bouldevard near the entrance to Samuel P. Taylor State Park when the collision happened at 5:55 p.m., said the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Jim Baker said Rama was traveling "eastbound at an excessive speed" when he "passed to the left, crossing a double yellow line on a slight curve. Coming the other way at about 15 miles per hour was a 1974 Cadillac El Dorado pulling a 30-foot, two axle trailer coach."

The Cadillac driver, Kenneth Kingwell, 57, of British Columbia, saw Rama coming, slowed and pulled to the right, but was unable to avoid a collision, Baker said.

Rama died a little over an hour later at Ross General Hospital, Baker said.

The Novatan was born in Germany, but moved with his family to the United States when he was two years old. He attended Olive School and San Marin High School and played Little League in Novato.

He attended trade school after graduating from high school and worked as a landscaper and mechanic.

He is survived by his father, Herbert A. Rama; and Cheyenne, daughter of the victim and Laurean Rama, all of Novato.

Other survivors include: two sisters, Billie Pulhamus of San Jose and Maxine Miller of Novato; and a brother, J. W. Clark of Oregon.

The Neptune Society is handling the arrangements. A memorial service is planned in the future.
