Larry,
Thank you so very much for responding and for the information. Are you related to the above family?
At this point I really do not know if the above Edward Eugene LaMay is mine. I have sent for his death certificate but am not sure if the info will tell me for sure. I have been searching for my Eugene for 30 some years. Some facts fit and some do not.
Mine was born Eugene Ellsworth LaMay (Lammay) in PA in 1861. (Son Edward's middle name of Elsworth jumped out at me). Not sure he could have gotten away with passing himself off as almost 20 years younger. My Eugene has a long history of having multiple families. He also never seemed to stay in one place very long. He lived in Pittsburgh, PA with my great grandmother (Catherine Stauffer). But starting about 1905 I have been able to place him in numerous places (St. Louis MS, Venura CA, Akron Ohio, Butte Montana). My grandmother said he always came and went disappearing for good around 1920.
I did a little research and noticed the birth places of the above kids were numerous (CA, IL, NM, and Texas). I suppose he could have changed his first name (Edward was his grandfather's name). I know he was arrested at least once so he may have been trying to avoid being found by more people than just my great grandmother. He worked in saloons in at least 2 cities plus he worked as a brakeman for the Railroad--which may have been how he was able to travel.
I would think if they are 2 different people I would be able to find something more on an Edward Lamay born in 1878 but so far I have found nothing. Again thanks so much for your response.
Margie
