Greetings. This year I have done a lot of research on the Inyo County Farm Home. On the 1900 census, I found a lost relative (GGGG-uncle) listed as an "inmate" a the farm. He had been in Inyo county as a miner & teamster since at least 1870. I went to Inyo county this spring and was able to obtain his death cert and it stated he died and was buried there in 1903. I talked w/ historical society folks there and learned the land the home was on is still county property, and houses the animal shelter now. Pastures are leased to a farmer. Nancy, who works at the library and also as does historical research and works in the basement of the courthouse, knew of the graveyard there. I located a county map from abt 1931 showing the layout of the farm in good detail, and shows the graveyard. Just this last week, I visited and took photos.... the layout is the same and I think the cemetery could be easily confirmed. Only the barn remains from that time, but most of the fence lines are in the same locations. It is pretty easy to see where things were. The cows / farming is doing an admirable job of keeping the graveyard mowed, which I think is wonderful. None of the graves are marked, and they may never have been marked other than in a temporary way. It is a pretty spot. I took pictures of the area and will post them on my family tree and invite you. It may take me a day or two. The lane, marked on the map, corresponds with the driveway up to the animal shelter. The address is on the south side of "County Road"at "Reynolds Road" in the north of Big Pine community, same as the Animal Shelter.
