Sorry for the delay in answering. The Hugh Watkins I'm tracing was born in Benton Cnty, Ark., 02-01-1841 & died 02-26-1927 Laclede Cnty, Mo. & Married #1 wife,Margaret Volinda Alberty 04-18-1861 & had 8 children. Married wife #2,Martha Murrel 10-04-1920 (who I believe was Margarets younger sister ?). I can find no information listed for his parents but the name Ann Simpson appeared on a few census as living nearby. Hugh was a school teacher for over 30 yrs.He was living with the Alberty's on the 1860 census, Newton Cnty, Mo. when he was 19. I was told he was a Cherokee indian who assumed the name Watkins? Can you help? Thanks.
