Surnames: Hodges, Taylor, Hensley, Qualls, Bromley
More research has shown that the orphans whose grandmother was of Native American descent and a Qualls, were actually the 1/2 siblings of Jesse Hodges' wife, Nancy Duncan Hensley. Those orphans were the children of Lemuel Hensley and Mary Brewer. Mary's line leads back to Qualls. Those Hensley orphans were raised by Nancy' sister Pernina who married Samuel Bromley. Over the years the stories about the 2 sets of orphans became mixed up.

This is not the only mixed up story from the Hodges line. The father in law of William P Hodges, Jesse's oldest son, was Benjamin Franklin Taylor. B F Taylor received compensation for horse and equipment lost during the Civil War while he served in the Arkansas Cavalry (Union). The oral tradition was that his horse was shot out from underneath him at the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. B F Taylor's unit did not exist until after the Battle of Pea Ridge and he did not join the service until after that date. However, Jesse Hodges' unit, the Texas 9th Cavalry did fight at Pea Ridge.
