I just came across your posting of 9 months ago and loved the story. ABSOLUTELY, JOHN PROCK WAS A GUERRILLA. He was actually with William "Bloody Bill" Anderson, which indicates he must have joined the guerrillas in 1864. I have been doing research on Quantrill's men (as many are currently doing). There is very little info on John Prock but I would like to tell you a few other things you might not know.

John Prock was born July 16, 1946. The incident you describe with the "cow's tail swimming" took place on in July 10 or 16, 1864 at Warder's Church. There were between 6-8 guerrillas in the Church at service (stories vary as to the head count) when the church is surrounded by Feds. Prock was the only one to survive. Smart boy! He attended the following Quantrill Men Reunions: Sept 16, 1899 which showed him living in Wellington MO and Aug 22, 1902. He died on Nov 1, 1903 and is buried at Greenton Cemetery.

I'd like to get more info on his suicide and the incident surround it. Thanks again for sharing the family stories!!!
