HI, I was wondering about your James M Smith. My James was born in South Carolina about 1824.
I have no record of the family before the 1850 cencus in Forsyth County GA.
They were in the :
1860 census for Cherokee Co GA
1870 census for Jackson Co. AL
1880 census for Hunt Co TX
1890 census for Fannin TX
My James died in Fannin Co before the 1900 cenus
They had several children:
Amanda M Smith
Mary A.E. Smith
James Henry Smith
John W. Smith
Ranson T. Smith
George Camuel Smith
Malinda M. Smith
Martha M.J. Smith
From census records I can confirm his wifes name was Sarah, but am not sure of her last name. Family records say it may have been Redd, but other records seem to be different, so I am not sure of it.
I come from his son George Camuel's line.
I had been told also that James was am Indian, and refused to sign the Dawes rolls. I recently came accross an old photo of james and Sarah. She may have been a half Indian, but he was blond headed and sure not Indian!
If there is a connection please let me know. I would love to exchange information with you. I have some wonderful stories and photo's of them as well. I have been trying to find a connection to this line for many years!
