I am interested to learn your source for the place of burial for these Lees, as it conflicts with my information. I show all 4 of those Lees mentioned (William Carroll Lee, wife, Sarah P Taylor Lee, and William's sons, Polk Dallas Lee and James E Lee) were all buried in the LEE Cemetery, off Gallant Road, in Gallant, Etowah Co, AL. I have been to the cemetery numerous times, and have seen the marked graves there. (There is another Lee Cemetery in Etowah Co, AL, and don't confuse this Lee cemetery (where William Carroll etc are buried) with the other cemetery. Our Lee Cemetery is the lesser known and probably smaller of the two cemeteries).

As a side note, the Lee Cemetery is in danger of being lost forever. Several years ago, (ca 1994) I obtained an Etowah County map which listed churches and cemeteries on it, and Lee was not on there. After numerous letters to the map company and publisher of the map company, they directed me to contact the Alabama Highway Dept to research it, so that their records could be updated and the cemetery would reflect on future maps (for posterity, before it is lost forever). The AL DOT went out and surveyed the cemetery, and noted a few historical graves. (Col. William Carroll Lee was a War of 1812 and Indian Wars soldier, and his son, Polk Dallas, was once the Sheriff of Etowah Co, AL.) The AL DOT sent me a very nice letter in return stating they had updated their computer records, and they printed me a copy of a new highway map with the cemetery listed on it. A couple of years ago, I found another similar map of Etowah County, published ca 1996 or 1998 (well after I had contacted the AL DOT0, and the cemetery STILL was not listed. I can only assume that the map company did not do the proper research to update their records.

The reason the cemetery is in danger is because I believe only the old timers in the area, and a few genealogists know of the cemetery's existence. The cemetery is on private property in the woods at the top of the owner's driveway. It is overgrown and well hidden and many graves marked only with a rock. In a few years, it will be covered entirely. My goal was to publicize its existence so that it would be known about, and maintained and possibly protected, for its genealogical value as well as historical value (the graves of a soldier and a sheriff there).

In addition, I believe the Brasher cemetery you referred to is actually located in Etowah County as well. (At least I do not recall one in Shelby and I know there is one in Etowah). It is just down the road from the Lee Cemetery. It is located off Brashers Cut-off Road, which is off of the Gallant Road. From Gallant Road, there will be a house on one side across from Brashers Spring (an actual Spring), and the cemetery is located on the side of the house. I have been to that cemetery as well. I have some information on some of the burials at both cemeteries. I believe I have a complete listing of the Lee Cemetery (at least the marked graves) and any and all Brashers buried in both.

My mother and grandparents were born and raised in Gallant, so I am familiar with the main road and the churches and cemeteries located on it.

William Carroll Lee and Sarah P Taylor are my ggg grandparents through their daughter Eliza Jane Lee who m/Simon S. Conn Jr. They are also buried at the Lee Cemetery.

I am interested to learn how you connect, and would like to trade further information with you. Please email me at poetmom@aol.com as I rarely check the boards. (I also have several Brasher lines; from Shelby and Etowah and St. Clair Co, AL).
