Carl, I did a thorough search of the 46th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. Co C. There was no Mitchell in the listing. I believe the grave in incorrect. That being said, I think there is no way to decide who is who. Think I will write the Vicksburg Address given on the site and see what they have to say. Think it would be just too much trouble to correct IF the grave is incorrectly labeled. Will write a Randolph County person to see if they know anything. Surely there is a record of his enlistment somewhere. On the 1866 Census of Randolph ( which is barely readable) it appears to list a D Mitchell with one soldier who died of disease.
