In November 1865 the Memphis and Charleston ran trains over the entire line except for one break at Decatur, AL, the bridge over the TN River - over 1700 ft long. A contract was made with Albert Fink of Louisville KY, one of the most experienced and reliable bridge builders in the country. In July 1866 the bridge was completed. Maybe this will help?
