My Patrick Smith b/ ca 1788 TN was there in Jackson Co, AL in 1830. He named a son David. His father is thought to be a James.
One thing to add - I detailed the presumed path of migration of your Smiths from Chattanooga TN to Johnson Co, AR going through Jackson Co, AL (on the other thread) & it takes you right down the TN River, to Lake Guntersville. Guntersville was named after John Gunter. The Wiki article about him discusses his own Cherokee ties:
