Jack -- I found the following marriages in "Marriages of Etowah County, Prior to 1900, Volume I, which was compiled by Carolyn Miller Pruitt:
Nannie GILBERT = James HENSLEY 20 Oct 1878
Mollie GILBERT = James A. HENSLEY 18 Dec. 1887
Harvey GILBERT = Sarah HENLEY [sic] 17 April 1887
I believe there are at least three Didama in the GILBERT families, and I believe your Didama, the d/o Pleasant Gilbert and Didama BURNETT, was born about 1825 in Alabama?
I am trying to determine if the two GILBERT girls listed above were sisters and were the wives of the same James HENSLEY. Can you identify or place these two women?
I wonder also if Harvey GILBERT might have married a Sarah HENSLEY instead of HENLEY as the book lists the name?
The 1880 Etowah County, Alabama census shows a 67-year-old Didamy GILBERT (head of household) with three daughters, Mary, ?Fannie and Margaret and her son-in-law, Jim HENSLEY and his daugher, Lillie F. HENSLEY 6 months old. I *believe" that Nannie GILBERT might have been the mother of Lillie F..
Do you have any information on these families? Thanks.
