Mr Dennis,
Last year you sent me a reply to my query about descendants of Rev Samuel Ray who died in 1856. I descend from his brother Solomon Ray. There was a Mark Ray also who was their brother. I think possibly they had a sister named Henrietta Ray who married a William Head Jr and I think they might have had a brother named David Ray but I am not sure.
You mentioned you thought Sameul Ray's grandfather might have come from England. I have searched for over seven years trying to find information about the Rays. I was able to find that in 1769 George Ray Wray or Ray bought land from a Henry Yarbrough in Burnsiwck co Virginia. He was Samuel Ray's father. A deed where Geroge sold his land in Brunswick co Va said his wife's name was Rachel. They went to North Carolina about 1778. George sold his Warren co NC laned to a John Moore in 1789. He went to Chatham co NC for a while and then to Wilkes co Ga. I found records from the Powellton Baptist
Church where he and Rachel attended church there. They went to Jackson co Ga in 1798 and when Clarke co Ga was formed in 1801 from Jackson co Ga his land was then in Clarke co Ga. He went to Jasper co Ga by 1811. The last record anyone has about George was in 1819 when his son Samuel signed George's Clarke co Ga land back over to George. He had asked Samuel to try to sell the land for him but Samuel was not able to sell it so he signed the land back over to
George. Samuel went to Alabama in 1819. I do not know when or where George died. I have seen posts that said George's wife was a Cathryn Savage but I know her name was Rachel. When you said you had been told that her name was Savage did you mean a researcher actually told you that or did you mean that you had seen it on the internet.
also, I think there is a chance that Rev Samuel Ray's grandfather (father of George) was named William Wray. The name seems to be Wray in Virginia and Ray in NC and also in Georgia most of the time. Would you remember if someone told you George's father was from England or if you read it somewhe3rre on the internet? I can not find any information about George's father so it would be appreciated.
You mentioned that you only had a little information about the Rays but that you were not comfortable sharing the info you have. Could I ask you why you don't want to share it. Is there something in the Ray family you found that makes you uncomfortable sharing it because you do not know for sure if it is true? My name is Ross Smith and my email address is
rsmith6670@msn.com Which of Rev Samuel Ray's children do you descend from? I am looking for a direct male descendant of Rev samuel ray or of Solomon Ray or their brother Mark Ray for a DNA test which I will pay for.
I descend from Solomon Ray (brother of Samuel Ray) and Solomon's son Solomon ray Jr born in Jasper co Ga in 1811 (Solomon Ray died in 1813 in Jasper co Ga). Solomon Ray Jr had a daughter named Lucinda Ray who married a thomas M Abel in Winston co Al. Since Lucinda Ray who was born in Al in 11837 was my great, great grandmother that means I am not a direct male descendant. The DNA test has to be a direct male descendant of George Ray. It will tell which Ray line they were from. It is a very simple test. IF I paid for the test would you take it or if you don't want to would you know a direct male descendant of Rev Samuel Ray who would? Thanks, Ross
