For some reason, I can get my post to go through straight to the mailing list so I will post here as it copies to the mailing list.
It looks like we are getting off subject talking about outside libraries and what they have. The Anniston Public library may have some books on Cherokee County but they wont have a fourth of what the
library in Centre has. Plus comparing what one courthouse, museum or
library does to one another is ridiculous. They can charge what they
want for copies and there is nothing you can do about it.
No, all the records for Cherokee County have not been indexed and its
naive to even think that.
The only records that survived the 1882 courthouse fire was the
original land plat book and a couple of books of Chancery Court
minutes from 1856-1874 and the Chancery Court Register's order book
from 1855-1887. All of this has been indexed and is at the Cherokee
County Public Library.
The following have also been indexed and the indexes (and some
original records)are available at the Cherokee County Public Library:
Cherokee Co., AL marriage records 1882-1936
" " will records 1881-1927
" " estate records 1873-1915
" " apprentice bonds 1882-1909
" " divorce records 1895-1950
" " soldiers, sailors or widows-Civil War Pension
Applications Index 1890 to abt. 1910
and also all known cemeteries of Cherokee County, Alabama.

These indexes do not give a listing of every name that is shown in
every record. It is mainly an index of who the record is about. Also
the descrepancy of some of the records shown before 1882 is even
though the person died before 1882 the estate was not probated until
after 1882.
With that being said, I dont know of any records that have been moved
back to the museum. A large amount of the records that were upstairs
have been moved to the library. However just to be sure about all
this, I am going to the museum today and see for myself.
