I emailed David Crum today about this situation. It appears there has been a bit of miscommunication. He said the daily fee to enter the museum is $3.00. The $25.00 fee is a yearly membership to the museum. Copies of the records are $1 per page. The yearly fee includes an unlimited amount of copies at no charge. So technically you arent being charged to see the records, you are being charged for entry into the museum which happens to house the records. I need to check with him again to see just what county records are being housed there because the last time I looked upstairs it was a bunch of circuit court records, some tax records and some duplicate newspapers that the library has copies.
In addition to all this, 95% of all these records have been microfilmed and the microfilms are at the Cherokee County Public Library. Copies can also be made from microfilm at the library. David also said most people that come to the museum to see the county records, dont even make copies but photograph the records with digital cameras and get a copy of the record that way. I hope this clears up some things with everyone.
