Clayton has a Library , and a small genealogical section . Yes the courthouse has newspapers that dates back to the 1800's.
Who are you looking for ? Remember is you want to look at the cemetery's , there is one right down the street from the Clayton Courthouse . Also a nice one in Eufaula . I went to both . In Eufaula I found the graves of the Judge (Henry Delemar Clayton) that presided over my Great grandfather and the lawyer that represented him , who was also the Judges son ! My great grandfather killed his neighbor after the neighbor tried 4 times to kill him , Read about it in the newspapers while at the courthouse. I also have the appeal papers , but the State Supreme Court denied him another trial. Long story , but he served on a chain gang for 5 1/2 years , then received a total and complete pardon . When he returned home , his wife had taken his only son , about 10 years old and she came to Louisiana and He never knew what happened to his son . Never saw him again. This is who and what got me started on all my research. It has been wonderful . Hope you the same . Leta
