Jesse Brown b. 1840 Dale Co. & Killed in Civil war 1863. Not to be confused with another Jesse D. Brown of Barbour co., however, they could have been related.
Wife Leah A. Miller Brown applied for widows pension Nov 1864 from Skipperville, Dale Co.
It is believed she died before 1870 and her children:
John Jackson. Brown, b. 1858; William Andrew Brown, b. 1860; & Missouri Francus Brown, b. 1862 all moved to Barbour Co. and resided with John & Mary Jacobs. The 1870 census also listed a Jason in the household but believe he was Mary's brother.
The 1880 census shows John J. Brown and wife Savanah residing in Barbour Co. as a farmer. In abt. 1883 they had a daughter named Georgia. I believe Savanah Died prior to 1889 as John J. moved to MS and married Roxie Curithers 1889, at Duck Hill, MS. and resided in Carroll Co., MS. the rest of his life. His daughter Georgia lived with his brother William A. in Geneva Co., AL per 1900 census.
I do not know what happened to Missouri; however; the family bible indicated she died young but there were many errors in the bibical records.
Jesse Browns Brother William J. Brown, b. 1844 married Chasity Powers, b. 1854, Barbour Co. and they moved to TX. She died 1889.
Jesse's parents were John Brown, b. abt. 1794 in NC and Elizabeth ? b. 1813, SC.
I found other children of John who remained in Dale Co. as follows:
Rebecca J, B, 1842; John L. 1847 (married a rebecca); James R (or A) 1850 (married Elizabeth) Daniel A. 1853; * Mary E. b. 1857.
I am sharing this information on the board in an attempt to help others who search for Brown families and to possible find a link between my Brown's and other's Brown trees!
