I imagine you are aware that the Buelnas of Mocorito produced Eustaquio Buelna, who briefly was governor of Sinaloa in the early 1870's and whose son, Rafael Buelna (1890-1924) was a famous revolutionary general. You've undoubtedly seen pictures of Rafael, as he is the one on the wonderful horse (Mongono II, the horse also being rather well known) riding into Mexico City at the side of Villa and Zapata. Buelna is the one wearing the pith helmet. He also appears in the photos of Villa and Zapata at Sanborn's Casa de Azulejos and of Villa sitting on the gold throne of Porfirio Diaz. Rafael died in battle in 1924, and he was known as El Granito de Oro. Eustaquio Buelna also founded the first school in Sinaloa, el Colegio Rosales, wrote a history of Sinaloa and a dictionary of the mayo language.
