The info I have from my mother's cousin is that David & Sarah were married in Sask. Pity there are no marriage records. Haven't started searching Minn records yet. Same cousin said she looked into getting her mother's birth records (born 1895 in St. Paul) but apparently all records of that time were lost due to a fire so I might not get much there either. At least one and possibly 3 children born there. Don't know if US citizenship was acquired although I suspect not as they were there less than ten years. Sounds like they moved to Montreal by 1905 as the youngest child was born there, although I wonder if Sarah and children moved first. They did continue to live there the rest of their lives. David did become a naturalized Canadian and I have found scans of the relevant documentation online. No info on the ship etc. since they came up from the US (he was naturalized after living in Montreal for 6 years). I do know their death dates and where they are buried in MOntreal - my mother was aware of this already. I will look into the St. Albans border crossing records.

Because the name Dectar (with that spelling) is rare I am really looking for any info I can get. I believe David had at least one sister but I don't know first or last names, only that she moved to St. Paul (sounds like maybe his whole family did) at the same time.
