Surnames: Anthiaume Jarret Charron Beauregard Messier
Hi; My name is Dennis Beauregard Kanasta, ON

I'm a descendant of Francois Marie Jarret dit Beauregard married to Therese Marie Charron dit Cabana.
Franclois was the father of Charlotte Jarret dit Beauregard B: 1749 D: 1804
She married Pierre Messier June 1768 in St-Charles-Sur-Richelieu, Que. Canada

What I'm looking for is when was the 'jarret dit' dropped or deleted from the name
'Jarret dit Beauregard' .

My French roots start at Barthelemy Hugon dit Jarret 1420 France
and they continue in Canada
Andre Jarret Sieur De Beauregard B:1642 Vignieu, France
arrived in Canada before1676 and was married to Marguerite Anthiaume
Jan.1676 in Boucherville, Que. Canada (She was born in France 1653).

Thank You

I translated a paragraph below:

JARRET dit BEAUREGARD and Vincent: For different reasons, a few families used these three surnames, sometimes 4. This convention was chosen to indicate the different surnames used by the individual. In the original documents, you will not necessary see the names inscribed this way. In more ways than one the names were written has heard. The names can be as follows: JARRET, BEAUREGARD, VINCENT, JARRET dit BEAUREGARD and Vincent or JARRET dit BEAUREGARD dit VINCENT.

The following links are in french and may help you understand the concept
