Not got some more information at last on my Great Great Grandfather.

I have asked in the past about my Great Great Grandfather who we believe was a soldier from Yorkshire who was probably killed in Canada around 1846.

At long last I have got his regiment number which is the 68th.

I am asking if anyone can give me any information on the regiment in Canada in the 1840s.

His son was baptised in Quebec on 18th May 1844, his father is said to be in the 68th Regiment and I think it says "in garrison" but also says that father was absent.

My Great Grandmother was born in Chester in July 1846 so would suggest that he would have died / been killed sometime in late 1845 or early 1846.

We think that he came from the area near Masham in Yorkshire, his widow was in Laverton near Grewelthorpe in 1851 so that could be the general area where he was recruited.

One problem is that the DLI website only has the 68th in Canada 1834-1837!
