They may have been UEL. If so, there would be a land grant with their name on it. Much of this area was given to UEL. Still, many in this region were not. You need to find the grant with your ancestor's name on it to be sure. My ancestor from this area claimed to be but was not. Several of his brothers were UEL but he was too young to fight. He moved up with them and squatted on land that his heirs then sold after his death. They believed the land had been given to him by the Crown. That land was under heated debate a few yrs back. The American Indians claim that land is theirs since it was never legaly sold or given away. It is worth a pretty penny these days.
