Our documented family begins with Jeremiah Moore, born in Ireland between 1800-1810 who married Feb 1839 to Martha Morgan in the area of Cavan, Ontario, Canada. (Cavan has moved between counties a number of times-Northumberland, Durham, Petersborough)

We believe the Joseph Moore who married a Catherine Morgan (not a sister of Martha) on the same day was Jeremiah's brother. The witnesses for both ceremonies were Samuel Newman and John Morgan. John Morgan was probably the father of Catherine Morgan. The couples were married by a Wesleyan Methodist minister.

Y-DNA testing indicates we are closely related to a Moher family of County Cork who are Catholic. We suspect the surname was changed from Moher to Moore either when the family split over religion in the 1700's or when they immigrated to America in the 1830's.

Three of Jeremiah's children married three sibliings, the children of John Keown and Catherine Mills.
