Ah, was William Alexander a patriot? I wasn't aware of this...Too bad the connection I had guessed doesn't appear to be there...at least on his son William's line. Can you shed more light on William Alexander's service? And why did he leave for Canada if a Patriot? Very interesting.

I actually have 2 ancestors on different family lines that are qualifyers for SAR/DAR membership, but unfortunately, after doing much research, I question the accuracy of them having been patriots. In fact, I'm almost positive one of them was Loyalist, and is mistakenly being identified as a patriot based on an erroneus interpretation. The other was possibly a patriot, but he was a quaker, and had close ties to families that were predominantly loyalist. That doesn't mean he couldn't have been a patriot of course, but it makes me wonder.
