1861 Canadian Census: Listed as an Inn Keeper with his children: Randall age 27 and a merchant, William age 20, Richard age 16, son Alexander age 14, daughter Amelia age 11, and son James age 9 (my ancestor). They all list themselves as Roman Catholic.
1871 Canadian Census: Listed as of Scotch origin, Catholic and wife born Ontario.
Wife, Ann Frizelle
She was born circa 1813 in Ontario and died 19 Oct. 1893 in Tyendinaga, Hastings, Ontario.
1881 Canadian Census: She is listed as a widow, 68, living with her son, William, who is 36, Alexander who is 32, and Amelia who is 29. All claim to have been born in Ontario. All claim to belong to the CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
**Speculation: I think Randall was Catholic and while he was alive they may have practiced Catholism. However, I believe Ann was Protestant and once Randall died, she was able to go to the Protestant church.
1891 Canadian Census: Listed as a widow, 78. Born Ontario. Daughter Amelia is living with her. Ann claims her father was born in Ireland, and her mother in Scotland. Claims to be Presbyterian.
Daughter Amelia married James Helm at the age of 45. They were married 12 Feb. 1895 in Luverne, Minnesota. James Helm was from Minnesota. The couple eventually moved to California where Amelia died in 1931.
This is all we know. Any additional information is appreciated.
