First, I want to thank you for all your help. I still am in the dark about Lot 6, Con 12. Would it be line 6 # 12 on the right?

I descend from the Marshalls so the Stories would be my kin.

As for William I realise you mean Col. William the father of Johnson. He never went to CA. His son Johnson only went there when all his other children died. Old Bill and his name sake his grand dad were incredible politicians. The Col never lost his land in VT which he and a few other like minded persons took the land from NY and made VT. We know he was a spy for the British but I suspect he was a double agent pleasing both sides, keeping his huge tract of land in VT and still getting lots of land in CA for his children. I will look around for a news clipping you might enjoy. It is an interview of John S Marsh about the hard early days of Meaford.

I never found the resting place of Johnson Marsh. He is not listed in either Dorset VT or in Story's cemetery. Those would be the likely places. Can I ask you to look up some of John's children? I know most moved west but some may have stayed in the area.
