Hi Mike,

I've never ordered Archie's death certificate but I have his wedding certificate from March 31, 1903 in Minnedosa. Two actually, one from the church, St. Mark's, that lists his parents as Thos. Johnston and Elizabeth Bertram and born in Ontario. His place of residence was Minto, his name was James Archibald Johnston, age 30. The other certificate came from vital stats in MB. His name was entered Jas. Arhcibald Johnston and his mother as Eliza Bertrem.

On April 16, 1903 he was granted the SE 1/4 of section 22, twp 15, range 17, west of the principal meridian and this is reflected in the 1906 and 1916. I'm still trying to locate Archie in the 1901 census and this isn't easy because his name is probably entered or transcribed differently than what I would assume it to be.

I should add that Archie's marriage was an arranged marriage. He married Ella M. Bradshaw, daughter of James Bradshaw of Bedford, Ontario. Herbert and George were Ella's brothers and they were acquainted with Archie before Ella came to MB. Also, looking at the 1871 census in Bedford, ON I found that the Bradshaws and Johnstons are neighbors, pages 40 and 41.
