Good Evening:

A number of years ago I started working on 1 of my 2 MacDonald / MacDonell families and their early roots in Glengarry County are still problematic. The documentation to date has John W (William?) MacDonald marrying Catherine McLellan at St. Rapheal's on 21 Feb 1811. The family later migrated to Mara Twp, Ontario County where John died in 1848. Catherine was said to have died in 1878 but I have not found documentation of her death. They were apparently part of a group of people recruited by a Squire Cameron to settle newly survey townships.

I visited Duncan MacDonald at his home in Brockville and he provided the names of their parents; for John born abt. 1787, William & Mary and for Catherine, John and Mary (MacDonald). Unfortunately, I lost a drive with his information and do not have any documentation for these parents. I note that there was one John McLellan on the Pearl lists and family tradition is that these people were of Loyalist stock John W. was a member of the militia and served in 1812 - 1814.

Does anyone have ideas or comments on these folks?

I also wanted to let board members know that I started a new Facebook group for Glengarry genealogy and have been uploading files to the group. I encourage you to check it out and if you are so inclined please share any resources you may have.

Ron
