Hi Joy , et al . Using my cousin Francis Ross McDonald work as partial basis for the following . Ross has Archibald Grant b. circa 1621 [wife unknown] . They had son John Grant b. circa 1643 . This John Grant married 1st Christian with issue , 2nd wife Janet McDonell b. circa 1683 , whom Ross says was a sister of Captain Allen McDonell Cullachie b. circa 1712 ; their children:
1st Angus Grant Duldreggan b. 1701 d. 1779 wife Hannah Grant .
2nd Duncan Grant b. 1702 [transported and did not return] .
3rd John Roy Grant b. circa 1706 [transported 1746 , returned 1751].
4th Isabel Grant b. 1710 married Patrick Grant 8th Laird of Glenmoriston .
5th Patrick Peter Grant b. circa 1714 ; aka Black Peter Grant [8 good men Glenmoriston] .
Quite a family that! But for now will look at John Roy Grant b. 1706 , his children :
1st Alexander Grant b. circa 1736 .
2nd Elspeth Grant b. circa 1738 , married John McDonell aka Campbell [another 8 good men] .
3rd Donald Grant Senior UE of Craskie b. 1740 .
4th Anne Grant b. circa 1742 , died young .
5th Mary Grant b. circa 1744 , married Duncan Cumming .

There are two Donald Grant listed on the Kingsborough Patent Rent Roll . One is with the McDonell Pearl 1773 grouping , the other with Finlay Grant grouping which arrived on Ship Snow Britannie 1773 . Take your pick !
There are two Donald Grant listed on KRRNY Muster Roll . This gets confusing as the one designated as Sr. b. 1744 , and Jr. b. 1740 [these designations are like union seniority , and does not imply these guys were related] . I think we will look at the b. 1740 one .
He is a Private soldier , b. 1740 Scotland , served from June 1776 - 1783 . He was a farmer with 2 sons 4 daughters . We will now call him Donald Grant Sr, of Craskie . According to Ross :
Donald Grant Sr. b. 1740 married Margaret MacDonald . They were UEL and settled on W 1/2 Lot 13 South Branch Road Charlottenburg . Their children :
1st Lewis Grant Senior b. circa 1766 , d. 13 June 1842 , m. Catherine MacDonald .
2nd Mary Grant married a McDonald of Charlottenburg .
3rd Donald Grant Jr.b. circa 1776 NY [ orders in council 1801 , and 1831] .
4th Catherine Grant married Angus McDonald of Charlottenburg [o.c. 23 Nov. 1816] .
5th Archibald Grant married Anne McDonell [o.c. 25 Jan. 1831] .
6th Nancy Grant b. 1770 Craskie d. 12 Aug. 1842 on W1/2 Lot 19 SBR , where she married John Roy McDonell b. 1768 d. 1846 [ he was son of Roderick Rory McDonell Ardnabie who was a brother of my ancestor Allen Bhuide McDonell Ardnabie, both sons of John Dhu McDonell VI Ardnabie].
