Some researchers have png wondered what was the name of the ship that left Scotland in 1785,
came upon ice in the Gulf of St Lawrence and ended up in New York City. The folks on board came up to Albany and then overland to Quebec when conditions were good, arriving in the summer of 1786. My third gr grandfather; John Grant, Daldreggan; was the scribe who kept the list of those on this trip.
The ship's name was the 'Philadelphia' and was an American one. It is noted that it was the first American ship to dock in Great Britain after "the cessations of the difficulties in the colonies". Although the American people endeavoured to have the Scots remain in the USA, they all came up to Quebec as it was then known and most settled with relatives already there.
