I agree with Marg that McLennan and McLellan are two distinct families . The McLellan staunch Catholic and McLennan Presbyterrian . By chance they settled a stones throw across the South Branch of the Raisin River from each other . However the name in dispute here is McLeland , and I believe in this instance it is a misspelling of McLennan . On McNiff's Map 1786 , a John McLeland received Lot 23 Concession South of the South Branch of the River Aux Raisin , and as Ken has noted the McLennan Family held this land into the 1940s . I believe this same name of John McLeland / McLennan also appears on the reconstructed Ship's List for the Pearl 1773 . This John McLennan was KRRNY and my ggggggrandfather and father of Henrietta Henny McLennan who married my gggggrandfather Duncan Grant KRRNY who held Lot 20 across this same river from his father-in-law John McLennan .
