The Grants at Glenmorriston, descendants of John Mor Grant, originally lived not too distant from the Camerons in/near the Loch Arkaig area. The ancient manuscript of Monymusk is an interesting history of the Grants. I, also, descend from the Grants.
Today, genealogy is big business and "Genealogical DNA" is now the 'in' thing. Unfortunately, "Genealogical DNA" does not state name of 'person', nor name of locality, nor what century, etc.
Please note the following stated by a knowledgeable gentleman:
"...in reality a 12 marker match means only that there is a fairly low probability of a common ancestor....."
"....Y DNA testing is only another clue, not an answer..."
"......a match really means = it is another clue, not a definite link...." etc.
Supposition is not research. Socalled genealogists should take care not to 'intrude' upon the history of other families, or, to borrow facts. i.e = Cameron DNA project.
Note:
In regard to the Cameron DNA project website, please note:
l] The following is copied from a posting made on November 11th, 2001, by Mr. Joseph Price Csmeron, Sr.,
"I was born to James Earl & Vera Smith Cameron on July 29, 1922, in Mobile, Alabama. My mother died on Feb. 21, 1925, and I was raised inthe home of my beloved benefactor, Mrs. T.J. Price. I have very little knowledge of who my living relatives may be, outside of my immediate famly, which consists of four children, ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. I live from day-to-day by the Grace of God, and I entrust my soul to the Lord Jesus Christ. If there are any like-minded Cameorns out there who feel moved to contact me, I would be pleased to respond. Sincerely,
Joseph Price Cameron."
2] On January 24th, 2002, the following was written by Price Cameron Jr.:
"Mrs. Blair was led astray by a 1931 letter from James Cameron....He was not sure of the name of his grandfather but THOUGHT it was Donald....THOUGHT her [grandmother] maiden name was McDonell...etc.etc." The rough letter is full of supposition and borrowed the tragedy of my gtgt grandfather, Donald Cameron.
3] Also, the posting by Joseph Price Cameron Jr of Charleston, SC, November 29, 2001:
"... your Donald was clearly a brother of Lt. Col John Cameron..." [this posting was addressed to me, Margaret Cameron]
4] Also, please note following: "Charles Cameron", died Tupper Lake NY, March 27, 1911, was born in Scotland, and his father was born in Scotland. Informant was his wife. The information was correct on his death certificate, contrary to what some socalled genealogists have stated.
Also, Charles Cameron, grandfather to Mr. Hill McLean, was born in Finch Township [after 1808] [as stated on the death certificate of his daughter, Janet Cameron McLean] The informant on the death Certificate was Mr. Hill McLean whom I knew, a very intelligent gentleman. Certain socalled genalogists have stated wrongly that this Charles Cameron was born in Cornwall, Ontario, in 1801, etc.
5] NOTE: No Cameron lived on Lot 15, Concession 6, Finch Township, c 1811/12. No mill was ever built on this property known as Lot 15, Concession 6, Finch Township.[Registry Office Cornwall Ontario] Allan MacMillan of Glenpean who owned the mill rights within Finch Township constructed the first mill on Lot 14, Concession 3, Finch Township. A grant was given to a gentleman named 'Link' in 1844. If anyone had ever lived on this property [Lot 15=6- Finch Township ]before 1844, they would have been called 'squatters'. but there is no record of anyone having lived on this property until 1844 and no leases are recorded. [socalled genealogists have maintained, in error, otherwise.]
6] RE Petition by destitute widow: There is no record of how the 'Destitute' Widow's [petition 1811/12]husband died. Her request for properlty was not granted. It was denied. A petition is a request, and, in this case, the content of the peition was fiction.
The name McDonell was name of clerk on peititon, not maiden name of the 'desstitute' widow, etc. There is no record as to what Cameron family this widow belonged, and no connection to Cameron family at south half 12, Conc 3, Finch Township,or to a destitute widow in Plantagenet c 1826.
There was an obit in an old Ottawa newspaper about Clarence[Plantagenet] wherein a Janet Cameron, d 1866, a native of Perthshire. There were numerous Janet Camerons and Donald Camerons, etc. within Stormont/Glengarry/
7] The only record of a Donald Cameron having been killed [crushed] within Finch Township was the tragedy of my gt gt grandfather, Donald Cameron, killed March 1809 by a falling tree while building his log cabin, Lot 21, Conc 4, Finch Township, son of John and Mary Cameron, Lot 6-4 Cornwall Township. He and his brother, Allan, had gone north to Finch Township in 1808 but Donald was killed within the year. It took three days and nights to take his body out on boughs of the tree which had killed him, along the blazed Indian trail to the front to be buried on his father's farm.
My grandfather, Donald Cameron[b 1847] was Reeve of Finch Township at various times, and collector and assessosr for thirty years, and auditor of the county for two years. [record] He had excellent records. My grandfather Cameron died at his home in village of Berwick [Conc 6] The village of Berwick is three miles north of village of Finch.
My Uncle, D.B. Cameron]1883-1981] was clerk treas of Finch Township from 1911 until 1926. He had excellent records. My father was County Engineer [graduate civil enginneer Queens] from 1917 until 1962. He had excellent records.
8] My gtgt grandfather, Donald Cameron, son of John and Mary, was born in Scotland long before 1773, not in 1777, Cornwall, Ontario, as stated by socalled genealogist.
On January 9, 2005, 5.38 pm, I received a long email, wishing "Happy New Year'" At the end of the email it states: "...Hope to stay in touch with all of you, Love, Louisa." [wife of Price Cameron Charleston.]
I find it all very strange that, suddenly, people are 'coming out of the woodwork' claiming in error to descend from my gtgt grandfather. Even Elizabeth Ferguson Blair who produced a manu in 1986, claimed in error to descend from my gtgt grandfather, etc. [I have copy of manuscript forwarded to me in 2001]
The foregoing is in reference to the 'Cameron DNA website" which has not yet deleted all information pertaining to my family. Sorry, Price Cameron does not descend from my gtgt grandfather, Donald Cameron.
Supposition and probability is not research.
Grants, beware, "Genealogical DNA" is a very expensive venture without a definite conclusion.
