Hi Peter,
My family is from the Grants from Glenmoriston. I have male cousins whom I hope to ask to join the DNA group. At this time, I belive that I have found a link to a John Grant from Glenmoriston but I am not sure. I would like to have more positive documentation. I have found wills and cemetery records that point in that direction. There seems to be quite a few John Grants that came from Scotland.
Peter Grant(1798-1850 [My GGGrandfather])settled on the West 1/2 of lot 16 in the 1st Concession of Charlottenburgh in 1829. Peter's brother James had a lot in the 2nd Concession. His mother was Flora Grant (abt 1780-1827), elder sister of Peter Grant, the shoemaker. Since Flora's maiden name was Grant, and all of her children's names were Grant, I assumed that she married a Grant but wasn't able to come up with a name. Peter (1798-1850)is buried in the cemetery at the Salem United Church in Summerstown. In the very same cemetery is a Flora Grant, The tombstone reads "Flora Grant daughter of Peter Grant,Sr. wife of John Grant from Glenmoriston." I have no proof this is the my GGGrandfather's mother, but they are in the same cemetery. John Grant, however is not buried there. I can't prove that this is Flora, mother of Peter (my GGGrandfather), but it seems likely and the ages could be about right. I have a copy of Peter, the shoemaker's will and it names his sister as Flora (Flora is dead when the will was written), and the children of Flora receive a big part of his estate. My GGrandfather signed for his father's portion of the estate. Peter the shoemaker had no children of his own.
Does anyone have a thoughts about this?
