Hi Cathy . I was looking through these old postings today and noticed I had not responded online to your query . I do recall talking on the phone but that is of little help to others trying to follow the conversation .
John Duldreggan Grant remained in Scotland until the Rev War ended 1783 . He and 8 of his 9 children boarded the Ship Cochran in 1785 for Montreal and Glengarry . The ship was diverted to Philidelphia where they overwintered and walked to Glengarry in Spring 1786 . He was not UEL but was rewarded with a 400 acre land grant , being Lots 25 & 26 on Street Road [the most westerly Lots given out in Charlottenburg as they butted the 2 mile strip reserved as the Indian Lands . His oldest Natural son was our common Alexander Alex Grant who married Ann / Nancy McDonell [daughter of Donald McDonell KRRNY killed at Fort Shyler / Stanwix 1777] who was UEL and therefore her children on down are also UEL . In John Duldreggan Grant's Will he leaves the afore mentioned Lot 26 to be shared by both of his sons named Alexander . Our Alexander Alex Grant bought out his halfbrother the Honourable Alexander Grant's share . By the time Alexander Alex Grant dies in 1851 at age 95 , he had acquired other land including the Lot 8 Indian Lands [Street Road] that you mention in your posting . In his Will our Alexander Alex Grant leaves said Lot 8 IL to his eldest son Angus Grant b. 1791 who then acquires ajoining Lots to hold Lots 7, 8, 9, 10 IL which he holds until he dies in 1877 . Lot 10 goes to his eldest son Donald A. Grant [my line] and the three easterly Lots [7, 8, 9, ] go to Angus' grandsons by his other sons John and Peter . Hope this helps and does not confuse . Happy to help sort it out .
As an aside . Bgressel and I are related through Patrick Peter Grant KRRNY who was on the Kingsborough Patent NY 1774 and later shared Lot 10 Front Charlottenburg with Kenneth McDonell who was married to a Jenny Grant . Because I have found that family members often shared Lots [and often groupings of Lots] I am currently searching for a connection here . Also the afore mentioned John Duldreggan Grant had a sister Isabella / Isobel Duldreggan Grant Fraser married to Simon Fraser Sr. who died while a prisoner of the Americans in Albany NY 1779 . She later settled with her children including son Simon Fraser Jr. the Explorer at St Andrews West Stormont . I am checking to see if these Grant are all related .
By chance the mother of the afore mentioned Simon Fraser Sr was Mary Ardnabie McDonell / Fraser [sister to my John Dhu McDonell VI Ardnabie and aunt to my Allen Bhuide McDonell and his brothers Roderick Rory McDonell and Donald Bhoir McDonell both of Lot 19 South Branch Road next door to the afore mentioned Patrick Peter Grant's eldest son Duncan Grant on Lot 20 same .
