Thanks a ton for the reference records. They are very helpful. I hadn't seen a connection between Findlay and John before.

It seems to me like there might have been 3 Donald Grants in a row, one born around 1720, one in 1744, and one born according to your records in 1777.

I'll see if I can get hold of the will for Findlay Grant (and son John Grant).

From your information, I don't see a John "Big John the Robber" Grant living on Sir John Johnson's land, but John, son of Findlay.
