Hi Jan . Your Richard Prentice is probably a brother of my Daniel Prentice who settled as you have said on Lot 22 South Branch Road Charlottenburg , and he may well be the Lieut. Prentiss on Lot 20 Front Osnabruck . PreniceNet.com is an excellent resource on all things Prentice including what is known of these two men . My Daniel Prentice lost 2 sons in War of 1812 so that has lessend the descendants who carry the Prentice name . Daniel's son Lewis apparently moved near Ottawa and did turn Catholic late in life , the rest of the Prentice being Presbyterrian . In your query you ask about the settlement pattern as it relates to religion in Charlottenburg and Cornwall [Townships] . The original UEL settlers were a mixed lot with a strong McDonell Catholic grouping who settled in both Charlottenburg and Cornwall Twp. especially the St Andrews area . My Prentice , Grant , Clark , Cain , McLennan , Young ancestors were all UEL Protestant Scots who settled in Charlottenburg , and my guestimate is that of the original land grants in Charlottenburg were probably 50 50 Protestant and Catholic . The later flood of MacDonald direct from Scotland tipped the scale to Catholic but they were not UEL . The Prentice blood still flows via Daniel Prentice KRRNY and wife Mary Hamilton's daughters . Elizabeth Prentice married John Cain KRRNY , Mary Prentice m. John Clark [son of James Clark KRRNY] , Nancy Ann Prentice m. Nicholas Barnhart KRRNY , Katherine Prentice m. John Cross KRRNY. Hope this helps .
