I am confused. John Lumley is the 'father'. I have been told that Joseph inherited the farm from him. You have told me that Thomas inherited it from him. I'm sure the deed from Col. Talbot says Joseph Lumley. So did John Lumley come here from down east or did just his eldest Joseph?? In other words, can you give me an approximate time-line of men living on my property??? Can you tell I'm a bit confused!!! Thanks, Katherine

Katherine, Thomas Lumleys first wife was Christina Willey, and second 'mrs eliza Mills"(Eliza Brown) who he married in 1855. the report i have seen said "Thomas Lumley inherited his fathers farm". Now, it may be that older brother Joseph Lumley lived there before? Thomas died 1882-3 buried iona cem. His youngest son was William Lumley, who may have inherited the farm? William in turn had two sons, who did not have children to my knowledge. Joseph lumley was the eldest son of John, the whole family came from Southampton, Cumberland County Nova Scotia. John was born in 1766 in Yorkshire, england and came over to Nova scotia in 1774 with his parents(father,Thomas Lumley). Joseph married in nova Scotia, and i am pretty sure came to Iona with his parents. John Lumley was well to do as he inherited his fathers estate in nova scotia. He married there and most of his kids were born there. He brought his saw mill from Nova scotia to Iona, which i am sure was a big task. Of interest, Eliza (brown)Mills, Lumleys, daughter married Joseph lumleys grandson..Joseph Lumley(his father was Hance Lumley). i would be interested to know how many lumleys lived there.

I just recently moved into a house in Iona. When I tell people that I just moved to Iona and I tell them where I live they refer to it as the blue house or "The Old Lumley House". It is situated on the corner of Iona Rd. & Back St.I was hoping to find out some history on our beautiful old home. If anyone can give me any info. or pictures of our home that would be wonderful!
Thanks
Liz
