I am trying to research the maternal side of my family. I am not sure if they were part of the 42nd regiment or not. My Grandfather was Scott MacDonald from Parkers Ridge New Brunswick. His father was Alexander MacDonald born 1870 in New Brunswick. Alexander's parents were John MacDonald and Ellen (Spencer). I think John may have also been born in New Brunswick in 1842. However, this is where I get lost. I have been told that his father may have been Alexander McDonald who came from Scotland in the 1800's with his brother's, Thomas, John and Hugh. However, I cannot find any records of them coming. Alexander may have been part of the 42nd regiment as well. Any help you could provide would very helpful as I am totally lost at this point.

Thanks
