Ron--I'm having a real feeling of deja vu as I've had this same discussion with someone else but I don't think it was you. The John BUCHANAN who died April 7, 1864 in Pokiok Settlement (York Co.) was then age 71 and is the brother of my gggrandmother, Elizabeth Buchanan REID; they were both natives of Co. Derry. He married Margaret Cochrane in Ireland before they emigrated to NB; they came in about 1823 or 1824. So far I know of only one child, Mary, who married Ritchie McGirr. I have been unable to determine the connection, if any, to the Buchanans of Stanley. Confusing??
