I have done some research after receiving your posting and have found ancestry family trees:
Cotton Family Tree Owner: BrendaLevesque52
Cullen's Brook Quebec Sinclair Family Tree Owner: GORDONKEITHs
as well as others that indicate Margaret Ann Sawyer, d/o Esther Hall and James Sawyer. These sosurces shows that Margaret Ann m. William Smith and their first child was born 10 Oct 1852 SOOO, it is quite possible that Margaret Ann Sawyer was first married to John Thompson.
I have too much info to attempt to relay on a posting.
